Women are art in all their beauty. As an organisation that proudly celebrates and honours women, we applied this philosophy in how we celebrated Women’s Month and Women’s Day this year. Together with our social and community partners, the Tears Foundation, we invited young women from the Arts industry to share their stories and powerful works of art. The 10th annual African Legal Awards Hosted by Law.com International, in partnership with the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA) and Africa Legal, honoured the industry’s brilliant talent across the continent, engaging more of a pan-African audience each year. Held on the 1st of September 2023 at the Hilton Sandton, the awards’ prestigious judging panel was made up of a collection of corporate and independent legal minds including our very own Legal Counsel, Nastacea Faber.

Empact Group Chef Themba Siyewuyewu for Orlando East in Soweto dedicated his third-place finish at Final Cut Chef competition for 2023 to his late mother Mandisa Siyewuyewu, who passed away 10 years ago.
Themba confirms that his culinary skills were handed to him by his mother who worked at biscuit factory. Themba’s grilled sage chicken breast served on mashed potato with a side of garlic roasted carrots and sautéed wild mushrooms impressed judges and was the perfect homage to his late mentor.

The Final Cut 2023, our annual cook-off competition presented some cutting-edge meals that saw our for top six chefs from our food service operations units located in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Western Cape, and Gauteng compete for the title of Final Cut Chef for 2023.
Chad Esau from the Western Cape was declared the winner with a signature meal consisting of chicken roulade stuffed with garlic and herb mousse served with a burnt onion purée on a bed of mashed potato accompanied by balsamic pickled shimeji mushrooms, carrot points and whole grain mustard chicken jus. Chad spoke to the SABC about his journey as a chef.
A CSI initiative is an expression of care and cognisance of the challenges faced by the communities in which we operate. Empact Group CEO Alan Quinn was yet again on hand to talk about the Empact Group’s partnerships with several NGOs such as the LIV Village, Tears Foundation, and the Maths Centre all of whom are part of the Thebe Foundation, and the strategic CSI focus Empact has embraced in playing its role within the community.
